I’m happy to say I have my first guest blogger! In a way, my 97 grandmother Sue is my chosen guest for this post. She’s not hip to Twitter but she is a former English teacher who has a way with words beyond 140 characters.
Two weeks ago my dad sent me an email saying, ‘your grandmother is tired and says she’s ready to go. You should book a flight home.’
That flight home was this past weekend, and I had a great time spending a couple more days with her. On Saturday we finished brunch at her senior living facility. As she got ready for a nap smiling at me, I asked if she had any advice on how to lead a happy life and marriage.
“Happy marriage? You just need to listen to her. Just really listen to her when she talks.” Then she leaned back in her chair laughing and said, “and you’ve got to have a great sense of humor. If you can’t laugh together, you won’t ever make it.”
That simple: Really listen. Have a sense of humor.
